Park Hyatt Kyoto: How to Find Availability & Book Point Stays

Park Hyatt Kyoto Building

Park Hyatt Kyoto is widely regarded as one of the crown jewels of the Hyatt Hotel portfolio. Not only is this property located in the middle of Kyoto’s historic Gion district with some of the city's most iconic sights, but it is also known for its incredible views and top-tier service. Many Hyatt Globalists who have been lucky enough to stay at that property mention that it’s one of their favorite hotels, outright.

However, this luxury does not come cheap, with cash rates for a normal room often starting at a somewhat ludicrous $1,500+ per night, going up to $2,200+ during peak periods. Unsurprisingly, the majority of travelers hoping to stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto do not have the funds or do not want to pay the steep nightly rate and would prefer to use their World of Hyatt points to book their stay.

Unfortunately, Hyatt often only allows a small proportion of their rooms to be booked, and because the extreme cash rate means that everyone staying at Park Hyatt Kyoto is hoping to pay using their points, it leads to a major issue:

Extremely Limited Availability

Even this description is an understatement in 2025—Park Hyatt Kyoto consistently ranks as having the lowest point-booking availability out of almost any hotel in the world. If you want to book a reward stay here, you need to come prepared with a plan.

Therefore, to help you book your next stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto, we’ve put together a detailed guide with the tips we’ve used to book point reservations at this property in the past. If you follow this advice, it should give you the best odds of securing your next reward stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto.

With the background out of the way, let’s jump into the guide!

How To Book Your Stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto Using Hyatt Points

If you’re hoping to book a reward stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto, you’ve got a big task ahead of you that will be influenced by when you want to go, as availability during busy periods is substantially harder to get, though not impossible.

In general, there are two main strategies to booking a stay at this property based on how far out you are from your booking:

If there are >13 months until your stay:

Park Hyatt Kyoto releases its point availability almost exactly 13 months ahead of the current date. For instance, if you are trying to book a stay on April 15th of the following year, you should be checking the Park Hyatt Kyoto website every day starting on March 15th of the current year. The second you see availability, make sure to book it—even if it means booking multiple one-night stays (you can call Hyatt to combine them).

However, just because you are planning far in advance does not mean it will be easy; competition for these rooms is extreme, and it is almost a guarantee that all the availability will be taken by just a few days after the dates we listed above.

If it is less than 13 months until your stay:

If there are less than 13 months until your stay, chances are that the point availability for your ideal date is already gone. However, don’t lose hope!

While booking a stay in this case is slightly more out of your control, it is certainly not impossible; we have had success multiple times with booking stays less than a year out, it just requires some more in-depth tracking. The main way that you’ll be able to book a stay is by quickly reacting to someone canceling an existing booking.

First, you’ll want to book a refundable hotel for the dates you’ll be in Kyoto, just in case you are not able to secure availability. This is particularly important if you are hoping to visit during one of the busy periods (e.g., March-May), as hotel availability in Kyoto can go quickly. If you want to stay within the Hyatt portfolio, we recommend looking at Hyatt Place Kyoto. While this property won’t win any awards for luxury, we’ve had great stays there and it provided excellent point value, even with the 2025 Hyatt award category changes. Plus, they have a very flexible cancellation policy, letting you cancel up to 14 days before your stay.

Once you have a back-up hotel secured, you can begin trying to book your stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto:

1. To start, make sure you lock down the ideal dates you would want to stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto; the more flexibility you have, the better your chances of finding availability during your search.

2. Next, go to your favorite hotel availability tracking website and set up a tracker for the hotel at your ideal dates. Our preferred site is MaxMyPoint.com, which we’ve personally used to book stays at this hotel (not sponsored). If you’re unfamiliar with these sites, they are designed to constantly monitor award pricing and availability at hotels across the next calendar year.

MaxMyPoint also allows you to set up email notifications immediately once award availability becomes available.

The key step here is to use one of these sites to set up email notifications of availability for your dates. Make sure that you have the required points in your Hyatt account, so you are prepared for when there is availability.

3. Next is the hardest part, as the waiting game begins. Throughout the time before your potential stay, you will receive emails from the tracker whenever point rooms become available. See below for an example of the emails sharing that there is availability (left) and when that availability is gone (right):

As soon as you get one of these emails, you need to react immediately, as you’ll be competing against potentially hundreds of other hopefuls aiming to book the same dates as you. Typically, we found that availability closed up between 10 minutes and 2 hours after it became available.

From what we’ve seen, there are two main periods where award availability comes up:

A) Randomly between 2-6 months before the stay. There did not seem to be any consistency as to when people would cancel their bookings in this period, but we do see ~2 emails a month about availability.

B) Somewhat consistently 1-4 weeks before the stay. For many dates, award availability comes up right before the 30-day mark, as this is when the hotel’s cancellation policy forces you to pay a night’s fee for canceling your stay. However, we also often see last-minute availability pop up in the last week before the targeted dates.

Once you see availability, all you need to do is react quickly, and you should be able to use your points to stay at Park Hyatt Kyoto!
