The 5 Best Hyatt Hotels in New York City for Tourists, Points, and More!

NYC Skyline

New York City is without a doubt one of the most famous and acclaimed tourist destinations in the world. With incredible sights, non-stop things to do, and more job opportunities than almost any other city in the country, the city that never sleeps offers a range of activities and reasons to visit.

However, whether you’re looking to attend an incredible performance on Broadway, explore iconic tourist destinations like Central Park, or just travel for work, one of the most important parts of your travel journey is your choice of hotel. Selecting the wrong hotel can turn an otherwise fun trip into a disaster.

Luckily, NYC also has some of the best hotels in the world and an impressive range of options within the Hyatt hotel catalog. Hyatt is undisputed as one of the best hotel chains in the world for using points (specifically, World of Hyatt points) to book your stays. Due to Hyatt’s static rewards chart, booking your redemptions can often return 2+ cents per point! Chase Bank also enables you to transfer your Ultimate Rewards points directly to Hyatt, further increasing the total point pool for bookings.

To help you decide on which New York City Hyatt hotel makes the best sense for you to stay at during your next visit, we’ve compiled a list of recommendations based on our copious personal experience and thorough research. While everyone’s preference varies and many of the Hyatt hotels not on this list are still excellent, these are our seven favorite options based on important factors such as price, location within NYC, range of amenities, overall service, and room quality.

We hope this guide helps you plan your next hotel stay in wonderful New York City! Let’s look at our top 5 recommendations:

The 5 Best Hyatt Properties in NYC

Best for TouristsAndaz 5th Avenue

Andaz 5th avenue

If this is your first time in New York City, or you’re simply coming to see the sights, the Andaz 5th Avenue Hyatt property is one of the best options across all of Manhattan.

There are two key drivers as to why the Andaz is the perfect hotel for anyone looking to explore NYC.

  • The location: Andaz 5th Ave is located right near both Bryant Park and the NYPL (underrated NYC tourist attractions) and is a quick walk to Grand Central for any other travel. Plus, you are a quick subway ride from almost every other major NYC tourist destinations.

  • The price: While no NYC hotels are cheap, this Andaz is on the more reasonable side for NYC, especially if you book in advance. While similar hotels easily go for $500+ a night, the Andaz can consistently be booked for just $350-$400. For the value and quality that comes with this room price, such as great service and top-tier rooms, it is easily worth it for your next trip to NYC.

Overall, the Andaz is one of our all time favorite properties in NYC and is the perfect option for tourists hoping to have a good home-base to explore the city!

Best for Luxury Park Hyatt New York

Park Hyatt New York

If you’re travelling to NYC and hoping to stay in the most luxurious Hyatt property, look no further than the Park Hyatt New York.

This property is easily one of the most luxurious Hyatt properties on Manhattan; coming in as a Category 8 Hyatt property (the highest on Hyatt’s scale), this hotel offers it all. To start, the Park Hyatt NY offers an incredible location right near Central Park, allowing for an incredible starting point to travel anywhere in the city. As well, this property offers stunning rooms and an incredible saltwater pool, making it extremely pleasant to relax both with some swimming or in your room.

If you have Hyatt status, this hotel becomes even better; not only is the property known for impressive room upgrades for status holders, but the free Globalist breakfast is also one of the best I’ve ever had. The staff is also exceptionally friendly and willing to help with all our requests.

Honestly, besides the price, there are essentially no downsides to the Park Hyatt New York. The only factor I’d even consider to be an issue or downside is the lack of in-and-out privileges on the parking, but this is not particularly surprising anywhere you stay in NYC.

Overall, if you’re willing to spend the $700+ per night (up to $1500 per night at peak times) to stay at the Park Hyatt NY, you will absolutely not be disappointed.

Best for Value/Budget The Grayson Hotel

If you’re hoping to stay at a Hyatt property in New York City on a budget, it’s not an easy task.

There’s no way around it, hotels in NYC are expensive, no matter the brand or the location. However, there are a few bright spots that offer particularly good value for money across the city.

One of those properties is the Grayson Hotel by Hyatt. With the Grayson, you get a great location (West 39th Street) right in the middle of some of the most exciting parts of Manhattan, a consistently good experience (speaking from our personal history), and relatively low prices almost year-round. Unlike some of the other hotels on this list, which can easily push $600 per night, the Grayson offers rooms as low as ~$200; in NYC, that is an absolute steal. While the Grayson isn’t going to blow anyone away with its luxurious amenities, the rooms are clean, the staff are friendly, and it’ll set you up well no matter where you need to go in NYC. Also, for all you Hyatt Globalists, the free breakfast is shockingly good.

However, this hotel books out at these cheap rates far ahead of time; people are aware of how good the Grayson is for getting value. To make the most of visiting NYC on a budget, we recommend booking your stay at the Grayson at least four months ahead of time if possible, if not longer. Otherwise, you may be charged higher rates due to the increased demand.

Best for Booking with Chase/Hyatt Points Thompson Central Park New York

Thompson Central Park New York

When trying to use your points to book hotel stays, timing is often the name of the game. With most hotel reward programs (e.g., Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors), the point pricing scales dynamically relative to the demand. However, Hyatt uses static award charts which are set into specific categories that don’t change beyond set values. Therefore, you can get incredible deals by using points to book Hyatt hotel stays during busy periods.

However, if you’re looking to book your next stay at a Hyatt property in NYC with your Chase Bank/World of Hyatt points and plan to travel during normal times (i.e., not during a major event or holiday), then look no further than the Thompson Central Park New York.

Most of the Hyatt properties in NYC offer relatively poor redemption rates (for Hyatt), with some of the other options on this list maxing out at ~1.2 cents per point. However, the Central Park Thompson represents a rare point gem. While the property isn’t going to give any dream redemption rates, you can consistently get 2+ cents per point.

For example, the average cash price of the Thompson is ~$650 a night for a standard king bed. However, the same room on the same dates will cost only 29,000 points per night (see below).

This example booking at the Thompson Central Park nets out to 2.24 cents per point! While many other Hyatt properties across the world can give you better point redemptions (upwards of 5+ cents per point), this is the clear winner for the best NYC Hyatt hotel to book with points.

Honorable Mention

No matter why you are traveling to New York City, there is sure to be a Hyatt property that can perfectly fit your needs. In this article, we’ve discussed a few of our favorite NYC Hyatt hotels; we also wanted to give a shoutout an honorable mention that did not fit into any of the other categories:

  • The Chatwal: This property recently switched over from Marriott to Hyatt and provides one of the most central NYC locations: almost directly in Times Square. While the property is slightly dated, the staff at the Chatwal were some of the most friendly, helpful, and on top of things compared to almost any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. While the property charges a premium, we highly recommend checking out the Chatwal during your next visit to NYC.
