The 5 Best Hyatt Hotels in Tokyo For Points, First-Time Visitors, and More!

Tokyo is undisputably a cultural capital of the world. Anyone who has ever made the trip to Japan can tell you that Tokyo is one of the most incredible cities you can visit, with the biggest city in the world rarely disappointing visitors.

However, whether you’re looking to see world-famous museums (e.g., the Cup Noodle Museum, the Snoopy Museum, etc.), explore stunning tourist destinations like the Tokyo Tower, or you’re travel for work, one of the most important parts of your travel journey is your choice of hotel. As many know first-hand, selecting the wrong hotel can make a mess of even the best-planned trip—when you’re making a trip that’s as substantial as one to Japan (especially if you’re traveling from the USA or Europe), being confident in your hotel selection becomes even more important.

Luckily, Hyatt offers an extremely wide range of properties in Tokyo that are easy to book with either cash or points. Hyatt is one of our top Hotel chains for using your points to book your stays. Due to Hyatt’s static rewards chart, booking your redemptions can often return 2+ cents per point! With 8 different Hyatt hotels, there is sure to be something for everyone, whether you’re a first time visitor or a seasoned traveler! And to help you figure out which Hyatt makes the most sense for you, we’ve put together a list of recommendations based on our travel to Japan and our copious hotel research.

So with that out of the way, let’s jump into the list!

The 5 Best Hyatt Hotels in Tokyo

Best for Location - Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo

For travelers hoping to stay in a Hyatt hotel on their next visit to Tokyo, and particularly for those who are visiting Tokyo for the first time, having a good starting location is essential to having the most stress-free and enjoyable travel experience. Luckily for Hyatt fans, the company has a significant presence in the city, with 8 property options in the broader Tokyo area!

But if you’re hoping to have the best possible starting location for your next adventure in Tokyo, there is no better option than the aptly named Hyatt Centric Ginza. As the title suggests, this centrally-located property is right in the heart of Ginza, one of Tokyo’s most famous districts. While being in Ginza places you right near a plethora of activities and sights, the hotel is also located right near a major subway (Tokyo Metro) station with ample connecting lines to almost everywhere else in the city. Regardless of what you are hoping to see or where you are hoping to go in Tokyo, the central Ginza location will likely be an excellent starting spot.

Plus, while this hotel is relatively cheap compared to some of the other options in the city (though still not cheap by any means), it also has substantial point availability across the year in case you are traveling during one of the peak periods (e.g., Sakura March-May). Cash prices can go as low as $450 per night and point prices fluctuate between 21k-29k points per night. Overall, this is an excellent option for travelers wanting to have access to all of Tokyo, and is a personal favorite hotel of the ETA Points team.

Best For Using Points - Grand Hyatt Tokyo

If you’re hoping to use your World of Hyatt points, your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, or your Bilt points, you are spoiled for choice of hotel options in Tokyo. Frankly, if you’re able to plan ahead and beat the rush, Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world for consistent WoH point value, largely due to Hyatt’s large footprint in the region.

However, there is one Hyatt hotel that stands above the rest when it comes to point/reward bookings: the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. Located in the Roppongi district (and practically touching an incredibly convenient mall), this hotel is one of the most popular destinations to book with points due to great value and broad availability across the year. While many hotels in Tokyo can get you 1.5 cents per point you spend, the Grand Hyatt Tokyo can net upwards of 2.6+ cents per point!

Cash vs. points rates at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo

In the above booking, we’ve looked at the same room rate for paying cash vs. with points; while the room rates start at ~$800 per night, the points value is fixed at 30,000 points per night, netting out at a whopping 2.64 cents per point! For a Hyatt hotel in a city, this is an almost unheard-of redemption rate.

Plus, many parts of the previously-dated Grand Hyatt Tokyo have been recently renovated, resulting in a much nicer guest experience. And while the GH Tokyo is not as centrally located as the aforementioned Hyatt Centric, it still offers a great base with ample transport options for those taking their first trip to Japan and planning to explore the Tokyo metropolis.

Best For Luxury - Park Hyatt Tokyo

UPDATE: The Park Hyatt Tokyo is currently closed for (much-needed) renovations until late 2024

If you’re looking for the maximum level of luxury from a Hyatt property in Tokyo, there is no better option than the famous Park Hyatt Tokyo. Not only is this by far the fanciest Hyatt in the city, arguably rivaling the Four Seasons and Shangri-la, but it is also the most expensive option in the city (often upwards of $900+ per night during peak season).

This hotel has all the amenities that you would expect from a luxury hotel—exquisite service, stunning views of the city (particularly from the higher rooms), and a variety of attractions (great bars, restaurants, and gym/pool). The rooms are all large by Tokyo standards, and the suites on the higher floors provide incredible views of the city.

Best for Long Stays - Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya

For any travelers hoping to stay longer than a week in Tokyo, we recommend looking at Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya. Hyatt House properties are inherently designed to be used for longer stays, often having either a kitchen area or a designed place in the room for laundry. This can be a lifesaver for any travelers staying for long periods of time, or anyone who is travelling for business.

The Tokyo Hyatt House is in a quieter location than several of the other options on this list; however, this property is still located right near the Shibuya Scramble Crossing for anyone hoping to see some of the famous sights.

Overall, this new property (one of the newest Hyatt hotels in Japan) is an amazing option and can often be far cheaper than many of the other more central locations on this list!

Best for Tokyo Disneyland Access - Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay

Finally, if you are hoping to travel to Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea, there is no better option than Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay. While this property is not as fancy as the more downtown options we’ve discussed on this list, it is by far the closest property, with only a 15-minute drive. Plus, there is an easy complimentary shuttle directly from the property—you likely won’t have to worry about sourcing your transport to the park! For anyone traveling with children, this can be a game-changer and can dramatically improve your trip to either of the parks.

While this hotel is far less convenient for exploring downtown Tokyo, it is in the perfect location for easy access to either Disney property! Plus, you can often find great value with cash and point prices at this hotel compared to many of the other Tokyo Hyatt properties.

Summary

Overall, if you are planning a trip to Tokyo, you are spoiled for choice of Hyatt properties. The quality of Tokyo Hyatt hotels is extremely high, so you luckily can’t go wrong no matter which option you choose. Point and cash prices can also vary dramatically, so we recommend looking at the prices for all the properties on your specific dates to see where you can find the best value.
