How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Travel Partners

Regardless of whether you’re brand new to the credit card game or a seasoned rewards pro, you’re most likely aware that Chase Bank offers some of the best credit card rewards of any card ecosystem. While Chase Ultimate Rewards points can be used through the Chase travel portal at a 1.25-1.5x rate (depending on which Chase card you have) or redeemed for gift cards, the most valuable use of Chase points is to transfer them to a variety of high-value travel partners, including Southwest Airlines, Hyatt Hotels, and United.

In case you’re unfamiliar with Chase’s travel partners, we’ve provided the full list of options below:

The full list of Chase Bank travel transfer partners. You can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards to all of these organizations

Transferring your Chase Ultimate Rewards to partners is by far the most valuable way to redeem your points. While using your points for cash-back, gift cards, or on the Chase travel portal can get you between .75-1.25 cents per point, transferring your points to travel partners allows you to go on all sorts of trips for as high as 6 cents per point!

For instance, say you were booking a trip to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and wanted to stay at the Hyatt Airport Hotel. If you book with cash during a busy period, you will likely pay between $350 and $450 for a standard room. However, if you transfer your Chase UR points to World of Hyatt (at a 1:1 ratio) and book the hotel with points, it will only cost you ~8,000 points. That’s a point value of 4.4-5.6 cents per point for an average booking!

See below for the cash and points prices compared for the same room on the same dates:

As you can see, booking with points is an incredibly valuable way to get the most out of your Chase credit card rewards! However, before you jump to transfer your points, there are a few important items to keep in mind:

  • The transfer ratio is typically 1:1—one Chase Ultimate Reward point is normally equivalent to one transfer partner point/mile. However, be sure to double-check this before transferring!

  • There are generally no fees associated with transferring points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to almost all transfer partners (unlike with AmEx/Delta). This is always subject to change, so make sure to review the terms before transferring your points.

  • It's worth noting that only one person can usually transfer points to one specific account, and sharing with friends or family is typically not allowed

  • We generally recommend not doing a smaller “test transfer”, as this can cause delays with the bigger transfer. Instead, triple-check check your membership number is entered correctly before submitting.

With that out of the way, let’s jump into the guide on how to transfer Chase Ultimate Reward Points to travel transfer partners!

How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Reward Points to Travel Partners

1. Decide which travel partner you want to transfer your Ultimate Rewards points to. If you don’t already have a log-in, go to the travel partner’s website (e.g., United.com) and create a new one (this is always completely free). Keep a note of your account number as it will be essential for transferring later.

2. Log in to your Chase Ultimate Rewards account (alternatively, login to your Chase account and navigate to the Ultimate Rewards home screen pictured below). For this example, we will be transferring from an account holding the Chase Sapphire Preferred; however, a variety of different Chase cards will let you make this transfer.

3. Click on the upper left sidebar to open up the options and then on the "Transfer to Travel Partners" link.

Look for “Travel to Transfer Partners” at the bottom

4. Navigate to your transfer partner of choice from the menu. To help with the search, you can specify between “Airlines” and “Hotels” at the top of the list.

Important note: Often, specific travel partners will be offering a promotion for bonus points/miles. These are extremely valuable and can save you tens of thousands of points on your redemptions. If you know you are going to be traveling on a transfer partner that is offering a bonus, it’s often worth it to transfer the points ahead of time and use the promo. Bonus promos are easy to find as they are always placed at the top of the transfer partner list under the “Bonus offers” section.

5. Link your travel partner account (the number we created in step #1) to your Chase Ultimate Rewards account. It is essential that the number you enter here matches your account number. To be sure you’re entering it correctly, we recommend copying this number and pasting it directly from the partner website, and then reviewing it digit-by-digit once more.

6. Enter the number of points you want to transfer. Typically, this has to be done on an even thousands quantity of points (i.e., increments of 1,000). Always be sure to check the number of points you need for your specific redemption before transferring the points.

7. Click on the "Transfer Points" button and complete any required confirmation with the travel partner.

Note: While Chase will often say that your points will be transferred to your transfer partner account in 1-7 business days, don’t be too worried: transferring points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to most transfer partners typically takes only a few minutes. However, If for any reason you aren’t seeing your points or your points must get moved immediately, consider calling Chase directly to expedite the process. However, from personal experience, it’s never taken more than 10 minutes for my Chase points to be transferred to common transfer partners like United, Hyatt, and Virgin! If you ever don’t see your points immediately, try logging out and logging back in.
