With that background out of the way, let’s jump into the top 5 flights to take from Boston to Brazil!

The Best Flights from Boston to Brazil

1. Boston to Manaus, Avianca AV227 / AV81

Our #1 favorite route to fly from Boston-Logan International Airport to Brazil is the Avianca flight to Manaus stopping in Bogota (Avianca AV227 BOS-BOG & Avianca AV81 BOG-MAO).

For anyone unfamiliar with the airline, Avianca is the biggest Colombian airline and a convenient choice for flying between North and South America—for getting between Boston and most destinations in Brazil, Avianca is likely the airline you’ll be flying on as they offer more routes than any other option.

This route takes off from Boston in the early afternoon, arrives in Bogotá (Colombia) in the evening, then departs for Manaus shortly after and lands in Brazil in the very early morning. Now, we know that recommending an indirect route that arrives at 2:30am as our favorite flight from Boston to Brazil may raise some questions. As we’ve mentioned hundreds of times, every stop on your journey increases the chance of a lost bag or a delayed flight.

However, the reason we like this route boils down to one main reason:

This route is typically the cheapest flight possible to get from Boston to Brazil, and one of the cheapest flights in the world in terms of cost/hour. While including a checked bag, seat selection, and other amenities does increase the price substantially ($300+), if you are willing to fly with the bare minimum (e.g., just a personal item), you can get from Boston to Manaus for just $175 (see below for pricing). If you can find another 10+ hour flight that costs less than $200, we’d love to hear it.

We know that flying indirectly at off-peak times can cause all sorts of pains and headaches; however, being able to fly ~10 hours for less than $200 is incredibly rare. In fact, we only know of a few flights across the world that allow for this excellent a cost per time flying ($20/hour).

Granted, Manaus is not the most popular route from Boston, but if your goal is to get from Boston to Brazil through the means of travel with the best cost per time spent, this Avianca flight path is unbeatable! Plus, the more money you save on your flight, the more money you have to spend during your time in Brazil.

2. Boston to São Paulo (GRU), LATAM LA8165

The second-best airline/flight combination to get from Boston-Logan to Brazil is LATAM Airlines’ direct flight to São Paulo (LA8165). LATAM is a Chilean airline, and one of the biggest airlines in Latin and South America. You’ll often see LATAM flight options when trying to fly between Central and South America.

This flight recommendation is extremely straightforward—LATAM LA8165 is the only direct flight from Boston to anywhere in Brazil. Flying direct means you’ll get there faster, have fewer logistical headaches, and likely have a much better overall travel experience.

This LATAM flight may cost slightly more than our first recommendation (ranging from $350-$500 depending on the time of year), but is still extremely reasonable for a ~9-hour flight. See below for pricing across the different tiers:

Another great thing about booking with LATAM is that they are partners with Delta and code-share many flights. This same flight is also bookable on Delta (DL6063) for the exact same price, meaning that if you have any American Express points saved up, you can transfer them to LATAM to book the flight.

Unfortunately, this flight is only scheduled seasonally and does not run throughout the entire year. Therefore, if you’re headed to São Paulo, make sure to scope out this flight’s availability for your travel dates!

3. Boston to Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Avianca AV227 / AV261

Our third recommendation for flying from Boston to Brazil is back to Avianca on flights AV227 and AV261 to Rio de Janeiro. Rio is one of Brazil's most popular international travel spots, and this is by far our favorite route to get there for the price.

This Avianca flight begins just like our first recommendation (AV227 to Bogotá). However, the second flight in this itinerary goes directly to Rio (GIG) overnight, arriving just after 6 a.m. the next morning. While red-eye flights are far more common when flying from west to east, they are also helpful for making flights north and south go by quicker (assuming you are the type of person who can sleep on planes)!

However, just as with the other Avianca flight, the reason we love this path is for the price. At less than $300 for the cheapest fare and just over $400 for Plus seating, this itinerary is incredibly cost-effective.

This flight path will cost you between $340 and $450 depending on the time of year. Interestingly, compared to the other Avianca flight, this route often has minimal price differences between the basic fair and the plus fair!

4. Boston to Recife (REC), Spirit NK1911 / Azul AD8711

Our fourth recommendation for flying from the Northeast to Brazil is to a slightly less traveled route—Boston to Recife (REC).

This is one of the few routes that connects through the USA, and while you’ll need to change airline and re-check your bags during the stop, there is no better way to get to the far east of Brazil than through this itinerary. Connecting in the USA on an international flight also means you only have to deal with customs once, saving both time and the logistical headache!

However, we’ll be honest; this route is about as budget as you can get. Not only are you flying Spirit Airlines in the first leg (who are known for their cheap service with no amenities), but you’re also forced to spend 2.5 hours in the dreaded Orlando airport. But for the total flight price of $350-$400, it’s still a great option and we recommend it, especially compared to other options which require 2 separate stops!

5. Boston to Belo Horizonte (CNF), Avianca AV223 / AV111

Our final recommendation goes to one of our favorite lesser-known travel destinations, Belo Horizonte (CNF airport).

For this flight path, we’re going back to Avianca (as we mentioned, Avianca is one of the most consistent airlines for flying from the northeast USA to Brazil). However, instead of taking AV227, we instead recommend booking the red-eye flight AV223. While this flight takes off annoyingly late, it’s perfect for helping you sleep the whole way to Bogotá!

As well, this flight is in the same range as the others we’ve shown, letting you make the 12-hour journey in the Plus seating and with both a carry-on and checked bag for only $420.

Summary

If you’re looking to travel from Boston to Brazil, you have a plethora of options at your disposal. However, many of these options require funky layovers or inconvenient flight times. The five flights we suggested here are our recommendations based on both our travel experience and copious research into flight times and prices. While a lot of these flights are seasonal, if you happen to be flying when they are available, we highly recommend looking into these options to make the most of your time and money.
