The 7 Best Flight Destinations From Boston Logan Airport

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is a major international airport located in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the sixth busiest airport in the United States and serves as a hub for several major airlines, including Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways. Boston offers flights to over 200 destinations worldwide, including many popular vacation spots, both domestic and international.

The best thing about Boston’s location is that it is an amazing middle point for travel to the West Coast, the rest of the East Coast, and Europe while simultaneously being substantially less busy than any of the major NYC airports! You can get to pretty much any of these destinations on a direct flight in less than 7 hours, which is a statement that other big airports like LAX and Chicago can’t match. This flexibility allows for some of the most convenient travel in the country, and with the international terminal’s recent expansion, international travel from Boston has never been easier!

However, when choosing a travel destination from Boston, there are a few factors to consider. Luckily for you, we’ve pulled from both our personal experience and the data to provide a list of the best travel destinations to fly from Boston Logan International Airport. We’ve looked at factors such as price, length of flight, airline options, customer experience, and the number of flights per day to come up with a conclusive list of destination recommendations to fly from Boston. If you’re planning your next trip, make sure to check out these destinations!

USA Domestic Travel

Los Angeles (LAX)

LA is one of the most popular tourist destinations for people all over the world. With the combination of Hollywood, Santa Monica Pier, and so many more attractions, it is a must-see across the board. As well, there are excellent options to get to LA from Boston. To start, Delta, JetBlue, American, AND United all compete heavily for this route, which means there are:

  1. Lots of flights every day

  2. Cheap prices for almost any dates

  3. More availability for first-class, business, and economy plus seats

  4. A wide variety of points and miles that can be used to book flights

I was personally able to do a round trip between Boston and LA with direct flights for only $250 on Delta on fairly normal dates (no random Tuesday to Thursday flights). Because this route is so contested across the different airlines, it means that no matter when you’re traveling, there is almost guaranteed to be an airline that will have cheap seats. If you want to get from the East Coast to the West Coast, this is one of the best routes you can take! Plus, airlines sometimes even code-share these flights to get more people on the route, resulting in cheaper flights across the board.

Overall, not only is LAX a great place to visit (it is undeniably one of the cultural hubs of the country), but it is also extremely easy and cheap to fly there from Boston.

Atlanta (ATL)

Unlike LA, which is a good choice of destination due to the competition, Atlanta is a great destination from Boston due to a single airline: Delta. Both Boston and Atlanta are MAJOR Delta hubs, meaning that planes are flying directly between the two almost every single hour of every day!

As a result, you can frequently find round-trip flights from BOS to ATL for less than $150 on Delta Air Lines. If for some reason, the flights are more expensive on Delta between any particular dates, Spirit also runs a budget direct route between these two (typical prices in the ~$110 range). While we would always recommend the Delta flight here, having the option to fly on a budget airline is always nice to have.

As well, American Express points can be transferred to Delta points at a 1:1 ratio, meaning that you can easily book flights with your AmEx points and SkyMiles!

Overall, Boston to Atlanta is a great route to get from New England to the Southeast on a budget, whether that be on one of Delta’s many flights or on a budget airline.

Miami (MIA) / Orlando (MCO)

Firstly, yes, Miami and Orlando are technically two different destinations. However, both are super easy AND cheap to get to from Boston at almost any time of the year (and many of the same airlines travel to each), so we’re including them together.

These flights are both ~3.5 hours and have direct flights multiple times per day from Boston. At the cheaper end, there is Spirit Airlines, who will fly you to both these destinations for often less than $100! Granted, these flights are about as barebones as they come but are great for travellers looking to save as much money as possible.

However, for those who want slightly more frills, both JetBlue and Delta offer frequent flights to both of these destinations for as low as $200 round-trip. Since JetBlue and Delta both have Boston as a hub, they are great airlines to frequently fly from Boston to a wide variety of destinations, including Miami and Orlando (which are two of the cheapest and easiest destinations to get to from Boston-Logan). We highly recommend making the flight from Boston to see any of the famous theme parks in Orlando and the well-known beaches of Miami, as well as the rest of Florida—Miami and Orlando are also great stopping points to the rest of Florida or on the way to the West Indies (e.g., Bahamas, Cuba, etc.).

International Travel

San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)

Our first destination recommendation for international travel from Boston is Puerto Rico as a hub for the West Indies! One of the easiest and cheapest routes to the Caribbean is to fly from Boston to San Juan. Not only do both United and Spirit fly there (in which you have a choice of budget vs. amenities), but the flights are also direct and fly multiple times per day! In just 3.5 hours, you can get from the cold and snowy Boston winter to sunny Puerto Rico for less than $300 round trip—frankly, this one is a no-brainer. With Puerto Rico also a great jumping point to South America, we highly recommend checking out this route no matter if you’re looking to experience an incredible new culture or to relax on a beach vacation!

Cancun, Mexico (CUN)

No doubt about it, Cancun is undeniably one of the most famous resort destinations in the world.

Conveniently for those flying from Boston, there are multiple airlines that fly directly to Cancun multiple times per day. The two airlines that have the consistently cheapest flight prices are Delta Air Lines and JetBlue, which if you choose your dates well, can get you to and from Cancun for less than $300! You’ll get a 4.5-hour flight to an incredible resort city with world-famous beaches for cheaper than most domestic flights. Cancun is home to hundreds of resorts, including many Hyatt properties, so we recommend using Chase/Hyatt points to stay to get the most value out of your money.

Dublin, Ireland (DUB)

For those hoping to travel to Europe, Dublin is one of the BEST destinations you can visit. Not only is Dublin (and the rest of Ireland) absolutely beautiful and full of cultural history, but it is also a cheap and easy midpoint to get to anywhere else in Europe (including the UK).

Both Delta and Aer Lingus have frequent flights to Dublin, letting you travel to Europe for less than $400-500—it’s hard to beat that with any other destination, including London, which is historically one of the most expensive European destinations, and has a much busier airport. Plus, this flight runs every single day with limited variation in pricing, so you’re sure to get a great deal no matter what your travel plan is.

One other benefit of flying between Boston and Dublin on Aer Lingus is that from Dublin, you go through USA Preclearance before taking off—this means that once you land, you can just get your bag and leave, no hassle involved!

Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS)

Another exciting European destination that is easy to get to from Boston is Amsterdam, with frequent flights on JetBlue. These flight prices are fairly similar to Dublin (~$450 round trip), but Amsterdam is even closer to dozens of other high-priority tourist locations in Scandinavia and northern Europe (Germany, France, etc.). Essentially, once you get to Amsterdam, is it simple and cheap to then travel to most of Western Europe via either plane or train.

I have personally taken the Boston to Amsterdam flight on JetBlue and had a great experience, and loved that I was able to do it on a budget without having to sacrifice many amenities! It may have been from when I was traveling, but I found this flight to often be somewhat empty—this opens the possibility of potentially getting upgraded to JetBlue Mint (first-class)!

Summary

If you’re planning your next vacation from Boston, there are many great travel destinations to choose from, both domestic and international! With so many options to choose from, and Boston’s airport continuing to add more destinations every day, you're sure to find the perfect place to escape for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation! While the destinations we’ve recommended here are what we think are the best options based on our research and personal experience, as always, we encourage you to explore flight maps and see what great trips you can find!
